Computer DSP
DSP stands for digital signal processor, it is a very complex chip that implements a computer program for a specific task. The DSP can work as a computer and it is much more powerful and faster than the microprocessor. It is used to work with digital sound, music and programs.
Discontinued/obsolete software
Cutting edge audio technology has once more defined a limit for conventional means of recording sound. Developments in technology have enabled music producers to transfer sound digitally and to perform real-time processing that goes beyond the capabilities of traditional instruments.
Obsolete Technology
Auto-tune
This technology has been developed in the 1990s by Apple Computer to correct pitch problems in vocals and other instruments. The original program was designed for use with sampled vocals.
Audio Compression
An audio compressor is a signal processing technology that can reduce the dynamic range of a signal by compressing the dynamic range. With the most common audio compression software, this can be achieved by reducing the dynamic range of the loud sounds and increasing the dynamic range of the quiet sounds.
Multitrack recording
Multitrack recording refers to the simultaneous recording of multiple sounds or instruments on a single track, in a similar fashion to how multiple instruments could be recorded on a single track in a classical music setting. It is a recording technique that was first introduced in the 1950s and became widespread in the 1960s.
Microphone Technique
Microphones are devices used to convert audio to electrical signals. Microphones can be categorized into different types, each having advantages and disadvantages, such as dynamic, condenser, electret, piezoelectric, omnidirectional, noise cancelling and shotguns.
Digital music
Digital music is a music format based on digital technology. It is a form of MP3, and involves storing the music in a digital form on a computer, portable digital player or similar device.
